Work Experience

Carmeq GmbH

Software Architect and Developer

November 2016 - today

I am a member of the “Simulation and Software Integration” team and working on different topics in the context of virtual test-environments for modern driver assistant systems. As Carmeq GmbH is part of the Volkswagen Group I collaborate extensively with the electrics-electronics department of the core brand Volkswagen.

My responsibilities are:

  • Technical lead in a project for an automotive software integration platform based on Red Hat OpenShift

This includes:

  • Developing of infrastructure and platform tooling
  • Identifying and evaluating stakeholder requirements
  • Implementing Kubernetes device plugins for automotive related hardware
  • Participation in Red Hat Open Innovation Labs as an expert for system design, software development and simulation tooling

Other topics covered:

  • Technical lead for virtual test environments for functional engineers of vehicle driver assistant systems
  • Developing sensor simulations and corresponding data visualization
  • Tool development for automated generation of virtual 3D worlds for testing of driver assistant systems
  • Implementing a Java-EE based database service for simulation scenario data
  • Training colleagues in modern C++, container-based virtualization, Kubernetes and OpenShift
  • Supporting HR in employee acquisition and interviewing candidates for cloud-technology based projects

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles

Software Developer

May 2015 - October 2016

As part of the preliminary development team in the electrics-electronics department I was responsible for developing and evaluation of upcoming driver assistant systems with focus on applications for commercial vehicles.

My responsibilities were:

  • Developing camera-based 3D reconstruction architectures and algorithms for collision avoidance systems
  • Designing an axle load sensing systems for commercial vans. Implementation covered sensor data processing and data fusion as well as an Android-based user interface prototype used for management board presentations

German Aerospace Center (DLR)

Software Developer

2010 - 2013

Working for the Institute of Flight Systems I was part of the software development team responsible for different test-flight aircraft and helicopters. In this context I was developing software for the real hardware as well as different simulation systems used by test pilots.

In my role I covered different topics such as:

  • Implementing measurement and calibration software used in various research aircraft
  • Developing of control components for a collision avoidance system used in a research helicopter
  • Statistical analysis of the flow characteristics of a five-hole pressure probe used in unmanned aerial vehicles
